About The Position

CRESCENT VIEW SOUTH PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL II is seeking a Full Time High School Tutor. This position operates Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The compensation ranges from $20.60/hour to $30.90/hour, depending on education. The school is passionate about its motto, “There is a Student in Front of Everything We Do,” and is looking for individuals with a passion for working with students to support their growth and development.   • Completion of at least two years of College (48 units), or Associate degree (or higher) from an accredited state college, or Pass a State or local academic assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction (California Basic Education Skills Test).
  • Proficient in basic computer literacy and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to travel in performance of job duties is required.
  • Mental Demands: high workflow management, high project coordination.
  • Finger Dexterity: using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
  • Talking: especially where one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Average Hearing: able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
  • Average Visual Abilities: ordinary acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or operate machinery.
  • Physical Strength: sedentary work. Sitting most of the time, and occasionally exerts up to 10 lbs. of force.
  • Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work required.
  • Working in a noisy, distracting environment with frequent deadline pressures.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledgeable in Math and Reading teaching techniques is preferred.
  • Bilingual speaking skills is desired.
  • A demonstrated interest in a teaching career is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic support in the form of one-on-one or small group tutoring.
  • Help students comprehend subject material to successfully complete courses.
  • Perform other related school activities in support of student engagement and retention.
  • Tutor students in all subject areas using various mediums such as online classes, virtual tutoring, one-on-one, and small group tutoring.
  • Tutor students in skills like literacy, technology, and access to online or virtual courses.
  • Provide basic technical support with online course setup and access.
  • Determine concepts that need to be taught or re-taught based on student notes and discussions.
  • Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and text notes, and book notes.
  • Establish and maintain control in learning environments and administer discipline.
  • Conduct mini lessons on writing processes, study skills, and course preparation.
  • Conduct brainstorming and clustering sessions with students.
  • Become familiar with educational materials and resources.
  • Facilitate peer critique groups in subject area labs.
  • Contact teachers regarding course outlines and assignment schedules.
  • Contact students and parents using company technologies for outreach and retention.
  • Communicate frequently and honestly with teachers regarding student progress.
  • Determine focus of tutorial sessions based on teacher directions and student work.
  • Maintain a cooperative, professional relationship with administrators, teachers, colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Utilize Socratic questioning and writing techniques.
  • Review student course schedules for accuracy and support.
  • Periodically assist in testing and assessments.
  • Assist professionals in the instructional program in maintaining discipline and encouraging acceptable behavior.
  • Act as a positive role model for students.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Keep informed of and comply with district and school regulations and policies.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
  • Attend all required tutoring training and adhere to attendance policies.
  • Perform administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities as assigned.
