About The Position

North Hudson Academy is seeking a full-time High School Science Teacher to teach students with disabilities in grades 9–12 at its New Jersey Department of Education-approved private special education school. The school serves students from PreK through high school, including students with behavioral or emotional issues, preschool handicaps, and learners on the Autism Spectrum. The teacher delivers modified science instruction, develops and implements lessons aligned with students’ IEPs, and supports their behavioral and academic growth. The role works collaboratively with related service providers, other staff, students’ families, and professionals. The position is part of the Instructional team and reports to the school principal. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Special Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or a related field.
NJ Teacher of the Handicapped Certification OR Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certification AND Teacher of Science.
Experience working with children with disabilities.
Ability to read, write, and understand English.

Responsibilities

Plan and carry out each student’s IEP and instructional program.
Plan and manage the school’s therapeutic approach to individual and group discipline.
Coordinate and schedule activities with other staff.
Maintain and inventory classroom supplies and instructional materials.
Keep required records.
Write reports, meet with parents and professionals, and share professional information about individual students as required.
Participate in school meetings, conferences, and in-service activities.
