About The Position

Atlas Schools is a tuition-free, open enrollment, K-12 charter school in the southeast community of Colorado Springs, dedicated to preparing and empowering all students for success in their post-graduate paths through educational excellence, character development, and community engagement. We are committed to student proficiency through academic rigor and robust family support via the Atlas family scholarship. Our student population is 92% socioeconomically disadvantaged, with 86% Hispanic, 6% African American, 7% White, and 1% Asian. Additionally, 56% of our students are English Language Learners.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in both Spanish and English (written and verbal).
  • Able to meet “in-field status” for the position with one of the following: Colorado Department of Education License with endorsement in World Languages, Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, 24 completed credit hours aligned with CDE requirements, or Completed/passed the PRAXIS 5195 within the last 10 years.
  • Ability to successfully pass all required background screening pursuant to CRS § 22-30.5-110.7.

Responsibilities

  • Embody the mission and values of Atlas Schools by fostering a rigorous, inclusive, and joyful learning environment for all students.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned Spanish lessons that build students’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Teach and scaffold Spanish language acquisition through immersive instruction, real-world contexts, and authentic materials.
  • Introduce and celebrate the diverse cultures, histories, and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries, reinforcing global awareness and respect.
  • Create a classroom environment that supports language practice and cultural exploration while maintaining high academic and behavioral expectations.
  • Develop and administer assessments (formative and summative) to track student progress in language proficiency and cultural understanding.
  • Analyze assessment data and adjust instruction to ensure student growth and achievement.
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of students and their families, providing regular communication, problem-solving support, and scheduling and attending all quarterly family conferences.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with families through active engagement aimed at understanding their backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences.
  • Document and maintain course syllabi, unit plans, and lesson materials for school-wide retention and instructional alignment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and instructional coaches with sincerity and a growth mindset.
  • Support colleagues during their absences by providing classroom coverage (compensated additionally).
  • Draft and revise meaningful report card comments that reflect student progress in Spanish language development and cultural engagement.
  • Participate in professional development to stay current with best practices in world language instruction and pedagogy.
  • Maintain and support a high-expectations school culture through consistent systems and a strong student-teacher rapport.
  • Support the summer program and participate in school events such as field trips, academic support sessions, and community-building initiatives.
  • Contribute to daily school operations including arrival, dismissal, lunch supervision, and hallway transitions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
