About The Position

Achievers Early College Prep Charter School (AECP) is seeking high school teachers committed to continuously improving curriculum and instruction through collaboration. Teachers in this position must be experts in Physics content knowledge, possess extensive knowledge of Science interventions targeting reading and writing skills, and be comfortable using online applications to enhance learning. They will be responsible for designing and implementing curriculum and assessments, using data to refine instruction, and being receptive to weekly coaching. The role also involves providing consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior, implementing techniques for student engagement, and being accountable for students’ mastery of academic standards. Familiarity with Google Classroom and virtual meeting platforms, along with effective communication with students, families, and colleagues, is essential.

Requirements

  • Degree in physical science or a related discipline.
  • Relevant teaching certification may be required.
  • Familiarity with different types of teaching styles.
  • Patience, innovation, and knowledge of classroom management and student discipline.
  • Strong multitasking abilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Teaching experience in an upper elementary, middle, or high school with an underserved population
  • Adept interpersonal and communication skills to diverse audiences
  • Valid NJ Teacher Certification completed or in progress

Nice To Haves

  • A completed teaching apprenticeship would be advantageous.
  • Tutoring experience would be advantageous.
  • Master’s degree is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Understanding curriculum requirements, and creating syllabi, lesson plans, and educational content that satisfy these requirements.
  • Analyzing the needs, strengths, and weaknesses of students and structuring lessons and assessments around them.
  • Adjusting teaching methods to suit different groups of learners.
  • Creating engaging, stimulating lesson plans and asking frequent questions to make sure students are on track.
  • Providing extra support to students that require it, and more challenging tasks to those who are ahead of the class.
  • Keeping abreast of developments and research in the field, and using this to ensure lessons are relevant.
  • Reporting any progress issues to the head of the department, as well as the parents.
  • Attending meetings, training sessions, workshops, conferences, and other continuing education initiatives.
  • Supervising lab sessions, delivering practical demonstrations, and accompanying students on field trips.
  • Keeping the line of communication open between students, staff, and parents.
