About The Position

As a Private School High School Guide, you’ll be that person. You’ll mentor students one-on-one, partner with families to keep momentum strong, and turn coursework into real progress toward a diploma. We deliver 100% virtual, tuition-free K-12 education with round-the-clock access to learning materials; dedicated tech support; and the tools students need to thrive—including laptops, and internet access for those who need them. From learners who need extra support to young adults working toward their high school diplomas, we meet students where they are and walk with them every step of the way. The Private School High School Guide mentors and supports students enrolled in My Virtual Academy’s private school program. You’ll be the steady, encouraging presence that keeps students engaged in their coursework, on track with their goals, and connected to their families and teachers. With strong organization, proactive communication, and a heart for student success, you’ll help turn a virtual classroom into a place where high schoolers feel seen, supported, and set up to graduate.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with parents and students.
Successful background check and fingerprinting (Indiana, Arizona, Tennessee, and other states as required).

Nice To Haves

Valid teaching certificate in the state of residence.
Experience in virtual teaching, mentoring, or student success coaching.
Experience with high school students in an online environment.
Proficiency with technology and online learning platforms.
Working knowledge of Edmentum and the Genius SIS.

Responsibilities

Maintain weekly communication with each assigned student to check in, celebrate wins, and keep momentum strong.
Collaborate with students to set academic goals, troubleshoot roadblocks, and acknowledge milestones along the way.
Promote student engagement and uphold the mission of My Virtual Academy in every interaction.
Guide students through coursework in Edmentum and provide basic technical support as needed to keep them moving forward.
Help students build the study habits, time management, and self-advocacy skills that lead to long-term success.
Identify when a student needs additional support and connect them with the right resources or team members.
Communicate weekly with parents and guardians of minors to share progress updates, celebrate growth, and flag concerns early.
Use excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with parents and students—building trust, transparency, and partnership.
Serve as a steady, professional point of contact families can count on.
Document all student and parent/guardian interactions accurately and consistently in the Genius Student Information System.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and individual check-ins with the Lead Teacher.
Share insights and ideas with your team to continuously improve the student experience.
