High School Floater Substitute Teacher

Winona ISDWinona, TX
Onsite

About The Position

A floater substitute teacher acts as a flexible, on-call educator who moves throughout a school building to cover unexpected absences, fill in for teachers attending meetings, or assist with specialized roles (like Special Education aides). They are essentially building-based substitutes who do not have a permanent placement/assignment. Because their assignment changes daily—or even hourly—a floater is expected to seamlessly adapt to any grade level and subject.

Requirements

  • The ability to transition between different grade levels and subjects rapidly, sometimes multiple times in a single day.
  • Connecting with students and understanding classroom routines immediately to maintain a productive learning environment.
  • Relying on strong behavior management skills to keep students engaged without always having the benefit of an established routine.

Responsibilities

  • Stepping into different classrooms to execute lesson plans left by the regular teacher.
  • Covering classes while full-time teachers attend administrative meetings, professional development, or are out sick.
  • Assisting with campus-wide tasks such as monitoring lunchrooms.
