Family Life Academy Charter School (FLACS) is a nonprofit network of high-performing charter schools in the South Bronx. FLACS, together with the Latino Pastoral Action Center and parents, aims to create conditions for self-empowerment for all its K-12 students to excel academically, take responsibility for their own learning, and affirm human values. The school is currently seeking dynamic educators who value collaboration, believe education is activism, want to work in an environment where academic excellence is the norm, believe young people can be leaders, and desire to work in a place where their skills will be nurtured through an embedded professional development program. The English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher (9-12) provides legally mandated services to identified English Language Learners and students needing at-risk interventions. This role involves pulling out small groups and pushing into classrooms, collaborating with general education teachers in a team model. The ENL teacher provides specialized instruction to help English language learners progress in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, and supports their access to the FLACS high school curriculum aligned with New York State Next Generation Learning Standards. The teacher also works with administrators to implement school procedures and policies and communicates with students’ parents, guardians, and/or caregivers.
