About The Position

St. Frances Cabrini Parish & School, a Roman Catholic Church and co-educational PK – 12 grade school within the Archdiocese of Detroit, is seeking a High School English Teacher. Founded in 1946, St. Frances Cabrini Parish has 1,500 parish families and 555 students. The mission is 'Educating the mind, strengthening the body, and forming the soul according to the Catholic Tradition.' The vision is for Cabrini Monarchs to be compassionate servant-leaders and confident missionary disciples who achieve 'All things through Christ.' The High School English Teacher is responsible for helping students learn and improve their English skills and positively impacting their learning and well-being.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teacher Certification or ability to acquire one upon application.
  • Bachelor Degree in English Education with BA (minimum requirement) and/or BD endorsement.
  • A strong interest in literature and language.
  • Compassion, understanding, and excellent communication and interpretation skills.
  • All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and/or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan.
  • All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach.
  • Prior to beginning work, all staff must attend Protecting God’s Children, and complete a background check/finger printing.

Responsibilities

  • Implement all Essential Standards established by the English Department.
  • Collaborate with the English PLC team to develop lesson plans, teaching strategies, and interventions.
  • Prepare students for formal and informal assessments.
  • Grade tests, pop quizzes, assignments, exams, and other assessments.
  • Communicate with parents, students, teachers, and counselors regarding underperformance and other concerns.
  • Keep abreast of current events and incorporate them into lessons to make them more relevant to students.
  • Ensure all curriculum and school requirements are met.
  • Assess student needs (academic, emotional, learning disabilities, etc.) and provide support or extra resources to struggling students as well as exceptional achievers.
  • Use technology to improve lesson delivery and recordkeeping.
  • Expand teacher networks and participate in workshops, lectures, and other learning opportunities.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
