About The Position

Freire Schools is a network of four charter schools in Philadelphia and Delaware dedicated to preparing students from historically underserved communities for success in college and beyond. The network is known for its belief in every student, a strong code of conduct, a sense of family, and joyous, engaged classrooms that prioritize academic achievement. Freire Schools has been recognized for its significant academic gains, ranking in the top 15 nationally for academic progress among charter networks. This role is for one of two high schools in Philadelphia, both of which have been recognized among the top high schools in the city. The organization is innovative and willing to adapt its methods if they are not effective. The mission is to achieve excellence for students through a rigorous college preparatory program and a commitment to peace. There are two high school locations: TECH Freire Charter School (9-12) at 2221 N Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19132, and Freire Charter High School (9-12) at 2027 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19103. Requirements

At least 3 years of previous successful experience working with diverse student populations, teaching experience preferred.
Positive attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get a job done.
Ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, and the ability to engage students, parents, colleagues, and community members in supporting youth development.

Responsibilities

Work with school leadership and culture team to foster a positive school culture that supports the academic and social-emotional success of each student.
Maintain safety and order and build relationships with students by being accessible and visible in hallways, classrooms, arrival/dismissal, lunch periods, and after school programs.
Facilitate restorative conversations between members of the school community and de-escalate students crisis situations.
Openly and regularly communicate with staff and parents/guardians regarding student behavior.
Maintain student databases with climate/discipline information.
Function as director of our athletics program (at Freire Charter High School).
