About The Position

KIPP Miami seeks an experienced High School Algebra 1 / Geometry Teacher to design and deliver a rigorous, college-preparatory mathematics program. This role teaches both Algebra 1 and Geometry, with Algebra 1 being the priority. The teacher will address significant gaps in foundational math skills for many Algebra 1 students, rebuilding skills while maintaining grade-level rigor. The ideal candidate has a proven record teaching high school mathematics, including Algebra 1, Geometry, and Geometry Honors, and can build pathways for advanced courses like Algebra II Honors, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AICE Mathematics, and IB Mathematics. Coursework will integrate career and technical education (CTE) strands (e.g., architecture, engineering, design technology, construction, and computer-aided design [CAD]) and problem-based learning tied to South Florida’s industries and STEM opportunities.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree is required.
At least two (2) years of full‑time high school teaching experience in mathematics (required).
Demonstrated ability to deliver rigorous instruction and achieve measurable student growth in Algebra 1 and/or Geometry, including with students who enter below grade level.
Experience preparing students for AP, AICE, IB, or Dual Enrollment math pathways.
Valid Florida Educator Certificate (or eligibility) in Mathematics (6–12). (Candidates pursuing reciprocity or temporary certification must be eligible under Florida statutes.)
Strong data literacy; proficiency with instructional technology (graphing calculators, GeoGebra, Google Workspace, LMS, assessment platforms).
Commitment to complete required CTE coursework and pass state CTE examinations relevant to assigned pathways within the first 24 months of employment (tuition/fees may be eligible for reimbursement per KIPP Miami policy).
Strong proficiency with instructional technology and data‑driven decision‑making.
Satisfactory background check and fingerprint clearance.
Experience integrating CTE content and preparing students for industry certifications.
Often required to stand and sit. Walk frequently and climb stairs.

Responsibilities

Plan and teach rigorous, standards-aligned Algebra 1 and Geometry curricula (including Honors and advanced pathways) that meet Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards and Miami-Dade advanced program expectations.
Prepare and internalize a strong exemplar response for each task, completed with the tools, strategies, and resources students actually have access to, and reflecting the rigor bar of the standard.
Anticipate high-leverage student misconceptions and pre-plan prompts to address them when they arise.
Build Algebra 1 units that develop fluency with expressions and equations, linear and quadratic functions, systems, and mathematical modeling, with intentional scaffolding for students entering below grade level.
Build Geometry units that integrate mathematical reasoning, geometric proofs, coordinate geometry, trigonometry applications, and transformational geometry.
Diagnose and close foundational skill gaps through do-nows, small-group instruction, and targeted intervention, without lowering the grade-level bar.
Design lessons where students do the heavy lifting: inquiry-driven pedagogy, project-based learning, and real-world applications (architecture, robotics, engineering design).
Keep students engaged in the work of the lesson from start to finish.
Incorporate technology-rich instruction using graphing software, dynamic geometry platforms (e.g., GeoGebra), CAD tools, and design challenges.
Develop assessments and performance tasks aligned to state benchmarks and advanced programs; respond meaningfully to what student work shows, student by student.
Use diagnostic and interim data to identify prerequisite gaps early and adjust instruction in response.
Prepare students for the Algebra 1 EOC, other state assessments, college-readiness benchmarks, and advanced program entry points (AP, AICE, IB, Dual Enrollment).
Collaborate with the mathematics department to ensure vertical alignment from middle school mathematics through Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II, and higher-level courses, including AP, AICE, IB, and Dual Enrollment.
Open advanced mathematical thinking to all students, ensuring equitable pathways to AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AICE, and IB courses, not only to students who arrived on grade level.
Embed CTE competencies (e.g., CAD software use, construction design principles, engineering applications) in course projects.
Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications (e.g., OSHA-10, CAD fundamentals, pre-engineering certifications).
Complete required CTE coursework and state examinations within the prescribed timeline (see Qualifications) and maintain all related credentials.
Build a classroom students run to: order that frees students to think, mistakes treated as part of learning, and high expectations paired with fierce care.
Partner with families as their child’s first and strongest supporter, transparent progress reporting, student-led conferences, and proactive communication, especially when a student is behind.
Create opportunities for every student to shine, and make sure student voices are heard and respected.
Contribute to shared goals, assessments, and curriculum so that every KIPP Miami student gets an excellent math education, not only the students on your roster.
Collaborate in professional learning communities, content teams, and advanced program alignment work.
Participate fully in weekly one-on-ones, coaching cycles, and peer feedback, and hold yourself accountable to the results you commit to.
