About The Position

The High Line Fellows: Emerging Leaders Program is a three-year, paid youth development program designed for high school sophomores through seniors. Participants will earn $18/hour while developing leadership and life skills, exploring career paths in Arts & Culture, Civic Engagement, Horticulture, and Park & Visitor Experience, and preparing for post-secondary education. The program aims to provide teens with a valuable first job experience, offering mentorship, networking, and hands-on learning opportunities on the High Line and within the community. New Fellows select two pathways to explore each year.

Requirements

  • High school sophomores who live in or attend school in Chelsea, the Meatpacking District, or Hell’s Kitchen.
  • Students at established partner schools such as the Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School are also eligible.
  • Commitment to the full three-year program through high school graduation.
  • Ability to commit to the specified schedule for three years.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather.
  • Ability to walk the 1.5-mile park.
  • Ability to participate in physical tasks as needed.

  • Attend all scheduled sessions consistently and on time.
  • Respectfully engage with professionals in various careers.
  • Meet and build positive connections with other teens, and collaborate and share ideas.
  • Represent the High Line positively at events, projects, and community activities.
  • Stay open-minded, enthusiastic, and flexible when learning and trying new things.
  • Lead tours of the High Line and support public workshops and events (First Year Fellows).
  • Participate in specialized training or summer residencies/internships (Second and Third Year Fellows).
