About The Position

Commonpoint is hiring an Emerging Leaders SYEP/WLG Coordinator within the Youth Employment Department. This department operates multiple programs serving primarily young people ages 14-24. SYEP/WLG provides New York City youth with summer employment and educational experiences that build on their individual strengths and incorporate youth development principles. The Emerging Leaders SYEP/WLG Coordinator supports the successful implementation of the Emerging Leaders component of the Summer Youth Employment Program, with a focus on participant case management, engagement, retention, intervention, and successful program completion. The Coordinator monitors participant progress, addresses barriers, coordinates interventions and follow-up, and supports worksite coordination, program documentation, data tracking, and compliance with Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) requirements. The ideal candidate is organized, responsive, youth-centered, and skilled at supporting young people who may require additional assistance to remain engaged and succeed in the program. This position reports to the Emerging Leaders Associate Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, education, psychology, counseling, youth development, public administration, or a related field preferred; relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience working with adolescents or young adults in workforce development, youth employment, case management, education, community-based, social-service, or program-support settings preferred.
  • Experience providing case management, participant intervention, retention support, and follow-up is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to build positive, professional relationships with young people while maintaining appropriate boundaries and accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify barriers, develop practical interventions, and follow cases consistently through resolution.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a caseload and multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with youth, families, employers, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Strong documentation and data-management skills, including the ability to maintain clear, timely case notes, participant records, trackers, and follow-up documentation.
  • Detail-oriented and able to maintain accurate records in accordance with contractual and agency requirements.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive participant information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn database and participant-management systems.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Familiarity with DYCD-funded programs, SYEP, workforce development, or New York City youth-serving programs is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of Emerging Leaders participants, providing consistent support from enrollment through program completion and post-program follow-up.
  • Conduct regular check-ins to monitor attendance, engagement, worksite performance, progress, and overall program experience.
  • Identify participants at risk of disengagement, excessive absence, unsuccessful placement, or early exit and implement timely, individualized interventions.
  • Help participants address barriers to participation and employment, including scheduling, workplace concerns, documentation, communication, and other challenges.
  • Maintain consistent participant communication and promptly follow up on missed activities, shifts, appointments, workshops, or deadlines.
  • Coordinate with worksite supervisors, program staff, and support services to resolve concerns, strengthen retention, and support successful completion.
  • Document participant contacts, interventions, referrals, outcomes, and follow-up activities accurately and promptly, escalating high-risk concerns as appropriate.
  • Support participants in developing workplace readiness, communication, problem-solving, self-advocacy, and professional skills.
  • Support program leadership in meeting DYCD contractual requirements and program goals by monitoring enrollment, attendance, participation, placement, retention, and completion.
  • Ensure program activities, participant records, case notes, required documentation, and online submissions are accurate, complete, secure, and compliant with DYCD and agency requirements.
  • Review participant records regularly, identify missing or outstanding requirements, and follow up to ensure timely resolution.
  • Maintain and reconcile program data and trackers for participant status, attendance, placements, interventions, outcomes, and other key performance indicators.
  • Identify trends or performance concerns requiring intervention and communicate findings to program leadership.
  • Support program reporting, DYCD monitoring visits, audits, compliance reviews, and other data or documentation requests.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with agency and contractual requirements.
  • Communicate program requirements, deadlines, schedules, placements, and documentation needs to applicants and enrolled participants.
  • Serve as a consistent point of contact for participants who need additional assistance navigating program or workplace expectations.
  • Collect worksite information and match participants with appropriate opportunities based on their interests, skills, qualifications, and support needs.
  • Maintain communication with participants and employers after placement to monitor attendance, performance, engagement, and placement success.
  • Support conflict resolution, intervention, and reassignment when workplace challenges place a participant’s placement at risk.
  • Gather participant and employer feedback to strengthen services and identify opportunities for program improvement.
  • Maintain organized confidential records, prepare program and meeting materials, draft routine correspondence, and manage assigned administrative workflows.
  • Track deadlines, follow-up activities, and required documentation to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, contractor meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
  • Collaborate with program leadership, case management staff, worksite staff, and other team members to provide coordinated participant services.
  • Support special projects and other responsibilities necessary for the successful implementation of SYEP Emerging Leaders.
