About The Position

The Herons Host AM position is a full-time role at The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, NC. The primary function is to support the daily operations and long-term success of the restaurant by greeting guests warmly, demonstrating a thorough understanding of menu items and beverages, and providing polite, professional, fast, and courteous service. This role requires maintaining a high level of professionalism, composure, and a positive attitude at all times, even in unexpected situations. Hosts are expected to be accommodating, calm, and sympathetic to guests, accurately communicate reservation details to staff, and assist with various tasks such as bussing tables, running food, delivering drinks, and resetting tables, embodying a strong sense of teamwork. The position emphasizes treating guests with respect as if they were guests in one's own home, contributing to a smooth and efficient restaurant operation.

Requirements

Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule in order to accomplish all major responsibilities and tasks.
Must be a self-motivator and motivator of others.
Must work in a safe, prudent and organized manner.
Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks at one time.
Must be able to consistently delight and satisfy our guest.
Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
Ability to use OpenTable computer systems and Microsoft Word.

Nice To Haves

Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar position.
Restaurant Experience: 1 year (Preferred)

Responsibilities

Greet and interact with each guest in a kind, collected, and positive manner.
Maintain a clear understanding and interest in the dishes and beverages served.
Provide polite, professional, fast, and courteous service.
Keep composure for the unexpected and remain polite and positive at all times.
Be accommodating to all guests and remain calm and sympathetic regardless of the situation.
Accurately communicate with all staff members any upcoming reservations or potential guests.
Assist wherever necessary, including bussing tables, running food, delivering drinks, and resetting tables.
Contribute to teamwork and maintain a positive attitude.
Treat guests with respect as if they are your own guests.
Assist in any necessary tasks throughout the Food & Beverage Department.
Run food and beverage items whenever necessary.
Maintain the cleanliness and efficiency of Herons restaurant.
