The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Hematopathology faculty member at a rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor. Board certification or eligibility in Hematopathology is required. Additional board certification or eligibility in Molecular Genetic Pathology is preferred but not required. The successful candidate will join a collegial team of nine hematopathologists in the Section of Hematopathology within the Division of Clinical Pathology. Based at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA, the Hematopathology faculty currently handle approximately 5,000 in-house bone marrow/lymph node biopsy specimens and 1,500 outside/expert consultation cases annually. These activities support Emory’s multi-hospital healthcare system, the Winship Cancer Institute (Georgia’s only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center), as well as several community hospitals throughout metropolitan Atlanta and the surrounding region. The Hematopathology group additionally reviews approximately 10,000 flow cytometry immunophenotyping profiles, 3,800 single-gene molecular diagnostic tests, 4,500 FISH panels, and 4,000 cytogenetics studies for hematologic neoplasms each year. They also participate in multidisciplinary leukemia/lymphoma conferences and are actively engaged in the training and education of fellows, residents, medical students, hematopathology laboratory staff, and students of allied health science programs. The successful candidate with additional molecular board certification or eligibility will share clinical service responsibilities with other molecular genetic pathology faculty who currently review approximately 1,700 targeted NGS panels for hematologic neoplasms and solid tumors each year. The successful candidate is expected to possess strong diagnostic expertise, excellent interpersonal communication and teaching skills, and a commitment to academic scholarship in hematopathology and, if applicable, in molecular genetic pathology. Eligibility for medical licensure in Georgia is required. The Department offers ample opportunities to pursue clinical, translational, and collaborative research. Compensation and academic appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
