Hematology & Oncology Physician
About The Position
We are seeking a Hematology/Oncology Physician for a Locum Tenens position in Prestonsburg, KY. This is an outpatient role covering staff retirement, with the need for coverage from November 2026 onwards. The physician will work Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, seeing approximately 15 adult patients per day. The practice consists of about 60% Hematology and 40% Oncology, with a case mix including Hematology, solid tumors, follow-up care, and infusion supervision. Standard Hem/Onc outpatient procedures and infusion oversight are expected. The physician will participate in tumor boards and utilize the Meditech EMR system. High-acuity leukemia cases are referred to tertiary centers. Credentialing takes approximately 60 days.
Requirements
- Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology.
- Active KY license preferred.
- Willing to obtain KY license if needed.
- Recent patient-facing experience required.
- DEA required if prescribing.

- Experience with Meditech EMR.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical care in Hematology and Oncology.
- Manage adult patients with various hematological and oncological conditions.
- Oversee infusions and perform standard Hem/Onc outpatient procedures.
- Participate in tumor boards.
- Handle approximately 15 patients per day, with a mix of new patients (20%) and follow-ups (80%).
- Supervise infusion services.
- Collaborate with support staff including APPs, RNs, and infusion staff.
