About The Position

Presbyterian Medical Group seeks a Board Eligible / Board Certified Hematology/Oncology trained physician to join the Cancer Care Program in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This role involves diagnosing and treating cancer in adults using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, and targeted therapy. The medical oncologist will collaborate with a supportive care team and may coordinate treatment with other specialists. Hematology aspects include the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders. The practice is 60% Oncology and 40% Hematology, with an average of 22+ patients per day. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM, with Tuesday and Thursday Tumor Board meetings. Practice responsibilities are 80% office, 10% inpatient, and 10% administrative. Call frequency is 7 weeks per year. The practice is a member of the New Mexico Cancer Care Alliance for clinical trials and uses a systemwide Epic EMR system.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. with fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology
  • BC/BE Medical Oncology and Hematology
  • NM Medical License
  • Demonstration of CARES behaviors and the practice of collaborative care
  • 3-5 years minimum experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat cancer in adults using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, and targeted therapy.
  • Collaborate with the supportive care team and coordinate treatment given by other specialists.
  • Diagnose and treat blood disorders.
  • Order and oversee diagnostic testing in alignment with NCCN guidelines.
  • Prescribe treatment and supportive medications.
  • Collaborate with the care team, including palliative care, psychology, social work, PT, OT, Speech, dietician, nursing, and research, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Oversee care provided by Advanced Practice Clinicians, as required by provider licensure.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives that drive standard of care across the continuum.
  • Participate in tumor board(s).
