About The Position

The Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina, is seeking a Hematologist/Oncologist to provide comprehensive care to veterans. This is a full-spectrum medical center affiliated with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, offering services in various specialties. The role involves diagnosing, evaluating, and managing hematologic and oncologic diseases, performing clinical procedures like bone marrow biopsies, prescribing chemotherapy, and providing consultative services. The position also requires extensive inpatient and outpatient teaching of medical students and residents, as well as providing discharge education and follow-up instructions.

Requirements

  • Must be board certified OR board eligible by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Hematology/Oncology.
  • Must have current license to practice medicine in any state, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as certified by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Responsibilities

  • Providing Hematology/Oncology care, including diagnosis, evaluation, and management of various disease conditions related to Hematologic and Oncologic diseases or coagulopathies.
  • Performing clinical procedures such as bone marrow biopsies with microscopic evaluation.
  • Prescription of chemotherapy and other cancer agents.
  • Providing consultative services at the patient's bedside or in the clinic setting.
  • Being on-call to evaluate and treat Hematologist/Oncologist consults, clinic, and chemotherapy patients.
  • Extensive inpatient and outpatient teaching of medical students and medical residents.
  • Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Hematology/Oncology clinical patients.
