About The Position

First Choice Services is a nonprofit that operates free programs and helplines intended to make behavioral health and social services easier to access. Help4WV Helpline Specialists also answer PA Get Help Now contacts. They respond to calls, chats, and texts from people experiencing emotional crises, including people seeking substance use, alcohol use, or behavioral health treatment. Specialists make referrals efficiently and empathetically, and may draw on lived experience. The role also supports the Children's Crisis & Referral portion of the line by connecting callers with mobile crisis response, completing wraparound referrals, and supporting children and their families by phone, chat, and text. The position is located in Charleston, West Virginia, and is full-time.

Requirements

Ability to pass a background check and post-offer pre-employment drug screen.
Ability to work the assigned shift.
Reliable transportation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Some computer and typing skills; the role involves continuous computer work.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required.
Kindness, empathy, drive, warmth, and patience in difficult situations.
Passion for helping people with suicide prevention, mental health, and addiction.

Responsibilities

Answer incoming calls, chats, and texts.
Enter call, chat, and text reports into the appropriate systems.
Document visitors' interactions in the appropriate systems.
Conduct follow-up calls when appropriate.
Connect callers to mobile crisis response and complete wraparound referrals through the Children's Crisis & Referral service.
