About The Position

Native Air, an Air Methods operation, is seeking a helicopter pilot to operate an AS350 under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) for air medical transport. The pilot ensures aircraft and weather conditions are airworthy for transporting medical crew and patients to receiving hospitals within an assigned operational area, and complies with Federal Aviation Regulations, the Aeronautical Information Manual, General Operations Manual guidelines, and Air Methods policies and procedures. The position is based in Deming, New Mexico. The posting lists a $50,000 annual stipend, off-duty housing, and a $15,000 sign-on bonus available. The pilot operates with final authority for aircraft operations and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment. The role includes preflight inspections and documentation, detailed flight planning, familiarity with aircraft and medical systems, participation in company and community activities, and regular scheduled attendance on a 7-days-on/7-days-off schedule with 12-hour shifts.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, plus two to five years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Maintain a weight not exceeding 250 pounds and be younger than 70 years old.
  • Must have flown in category for a commercial operator or in the military within the previous 24 months.
  • Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public, and contribute to a friendly and professional working environment.
  • VFR minimum flight times: 2,000 total flight hours, including at least 1,500 hours in category; 1,000 hours PIC in category; 500 hours of rotor-wing turbine time; 200 hours of cross-country flight time, including at least 50 hours at night; and 100 hours of unaided night as PIC. Up to 50 hours of the unaided-night requirement may be substituted with 100 hours of NVG time, but unaided time cannot be reduced below 50 hours.
