About The Position

Under direction, perform supervisory work ensuring documentation and completion of maintenance and repair work of heavy vehicles at one or more work sites. This role involves planning, prioritizing, supervising, and reviewing the work of staff involved in the repair of heavy vehicles and equipment. The supervisor will direct repairs, communicate operational requirements, implement plans and schedules, and recommend adjustments to work priorities and resources. They will also inspect and evaluate system checks, provide guidance and training to mechanics on diagnosing and repairing equipment, and diagnose difficult equipment problems. Additionally, the role includes monitoring technician performance, enforcing rules and regulations, and supervising fleet maintenance operations, which involves maintaining records, reviewing estimates, requisitioning parts, and managing shop cleanliness and condition. The supervisor is responsible for achieving shop productivity through technicians’ billable hour goals, identifying areas for improvement, and developing reports. Ensuring compliance with Environmental Protection Agency guidelines and safety, hazard, and related programs is also a key responsibility. The supervisor may also assume the temporary role of immediate supervisor or subordinate personnel to ensure operational continuity during absences. This position involves supervising assigned personnel, including scheduling, assigning, checking work, appraising performance, providing training, enforcing rules, counseling, motivating, maintaining harmony, and interviewing applicants for hiring and other employee status changes.

Requirements

Graduation from a heavy/diesel equipment maintenance and repair program from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of experience in heavy/diesel maintenance in a lead or supervisory role; or a High School Diploma, or GED or higher, and six (6) years of journey-level diesel mechanic experience including four (4) years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
Valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or equivalent from another state by the date of appointment.
Must obtain and maintain a minimum of two (2) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Medium/Heavy Vehicle Certifications [T1-T8] as specified in ASE's certification test series within six (6) months of appointment.
Must obtain and maintain a Texas State Vehicle Inspector License Certification within six (6) months of appointment.
May require an Underground Storage Tank Class A/B Operator's Certification within six (6) months of appointment.
Positions requiring a CDL or positions of a safety-sensitive nature are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.

Responsibilities
