About The Position

Nasittuq is seeking a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to provide safe, efficient, and effective maintenance services for heavy vehicles (HVT) at CFS Alert, located on the northeastern tip of Ellesmere Island. This role involves first- and second-line repairs, inspections, preventative maintenance, and diagnostics for all vehicles, equipment, and related attachments. The mechanic will also perform HVT recovery services and adjust, repair, or replace various vehicle parts and components, including fuel systems, brakes, steering, suspension, engine, drivetrain, emission control, exhaust, cooling, climate control, and electrical/electronic systems. Additionally, the position requires providing technical assistance for auxiliary equipment, completing maintenance work orders, contributing to various vehicle maintenance reports, and fostering positive relations with the client.

Requirements

  • Red Seal qualified in Canada as a mechanic or automotive service technician
  • Must be trained in driving with an attached trailer and safe backing
  • Must be qualified with Motor Vehicle Mechanics 310S (310SAutomotiveTechnician up to 9000kg)
  • Must be qualified with Motor Vehicle Mechanics 310T, including diesel endorsement
  • Must be eligible for a valid DND 404 Driver Permit
  • Requires Government of Canada Reliability security clearance
  • Requires valid Canadian passport
  • Must pass a medical examination
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in maintaining and repairing heavy vehicles and related equipment

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, efficient, and effective provision of HVT maintenance services
  • Provision of all first- and second-line repairs, inspections and preventative maintenance to all vehicles and equipment as well as related attachments
  • Provide HVT recovery service
  • Perform diagnostics, repairs and maintenance of vehicles
  • Adjust, repair or replace parts and components including fuel system, brakes, steering and suspension, engine and drive train, emission control and exhaust, cooling and climate control, and electrical and electronic systems.
  • Preventative maintenance as it relates to repairing or replacing worn parts.
  • Provide appropriate technical assistance to the maintenance of auxiliary equipment
  • Complete and submit all PM/CM WOs to the TVM for input into the appropriate maintenance management system
  • Provide input into the Government Furnished Equipment and Vehicle Report, the Transport and Vehicle Maintenance Services Requirements Forecast Report and the Vehicle Off Road Report
  • Contribute to the strong positive relations between the Company and the client.
