About The Position

Swank Construction Company is seeking an experienced Heavy Highway Carpenter to join our team. This position is responsible for constructing, installing, and removing concrete forms and falsework for bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, and other heavy civil infrastructure projects. Candidates should have a strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork.

Requirements

  • 18 Years of Age or Older
  • Must be available to work varied shifts (days, nights, weekends)
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods of time.
  • Must be in a union or willing to join a union
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willing and able to obtain and maintain a Swank Driver File, including a PennDOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (Medical Card)
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, MVR check, and background check
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Climb ladders, work at heights, and navigate uneven terrain.
  • Stand, kneel, bend, crouch, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of heavy highway, bridge, or concrete form carpentry experience.
  • Experience constructing and stripping complex bridge formwork.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and layout drawings.
  • Knowledge of falsework, shoring, and concrete placement procedures.
  • Experience working around cranes, excavators, and heavy equipment.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA safety requirements and fall protection.
  • Ability to work at heights and in varying weather conditions.
  • CDL preferred.
  • Willingness to travel to regional job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Construct, erect, and dismantle wood and steel concrete formwork.
  • Install embeds, anchor bolts, chamfers, and other concrete accessories.
  • Perform layout from construction plans.
  • Assist with concrete placement and stripping operations.
  • Safely operate power tools and carpentry equipment.
  • Work safely around cranes and rigging operations.
  • Maintain quality workmanship while meeting production schedules.
  • Mentor apprentice carpenters and work collaboratively with the project team.
