About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy machinery used in construction, excavation, roadwork, utility installation, and site development projects. This role requires adherence to safety regulations, equipment maintenance procedures, and project specifications while working in various weather and site conditions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to safely operate multiple types of heavy construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction practices, safety regulations, and equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to read and understand site plans, grade stakes, and work instructions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • NCCER Heavy Equipment Operator certification or equivalent.
  • Experience in civil construction, road construction, utility work, or mining operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, backhoes, skid steers, rollers, and haul trucks.
  • Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and material handling activities.
  • Conduct pre-operation and post-operation equipment inspections.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, and safety concerns.
  • Follow project plans, grade stakes, and work instructions to meet project requirements.
  • Load, transport, and move materials safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Adhere to all company, OSHA, and site-specific safety policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with supervisors, laborers, truck drivers, and other crew members to complete projects on schedule.
  • Assist with routine equipment maintenance, lubrication, and minor repairs as needed.
  • Monitor site conditions and adjust equipment operation to ensure safety and productivity.
  • Complete required daily reports, equipment logs, and inspection documentation.
