About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator works in the Commercial Refuse Division and operates and maintains assigned heavy equipment to support refuse collection and keep Savannah's streets clean. The role includes operating a boom truck to pick up bulk items and an automated refuse truck in assigned areas. The operator completes work orders and required paperwork, inspects equipment and job sites, ensures repairs and maintenance are completed, and performs minor repairs as necessary. The role also responds to customer inquiries, refers complaints to a supervisor, and performs other related duties as assigned. This is a critical workforce and safety-sensitive position.

Requirements

• Two years of heavy equipment operation and maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possess and maintain a valid state Class B Commercial Driver's License with an acceptable driving history.
• Complete a background investigation, including a supervised drug screen, post-offer/pre-employment medical screen, and verification of required education, certifications, and licenses before employment.
