About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator safely operates heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station to transfer, spread, cover, load, and/or compact waste or soil efficiently and safely. The role includes inspecting and maintaining equipment, monitoring waste for unacceptable materials, completing documentation, and following company safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

Two years of prior related experience in heavy equipment operation.
One year of prior experience working at sites regulated by OSHA.
Good customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally, courteously, and cooperatively with customers and coworkers.
Honesty and trustworthiness.
Good time-management skills to complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and safely.
Ability to follow a work schedule and follow through on challenges.
Ability to adhere to company policies and rules, promote safety standards, and avoid inappropriate risks.
Pride in work and motivation to achieve goals.

Responsibilities

Perform pre- and post-operation equipment inspections according to company policy, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear-view cameras are clean.
Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front-end loaders in accordance with safety standards.
Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
Monitor equipment condition to ensure it remains operational and minimize downtime; clean tracks or wheels as needed.
Perform and document minor equipment service, and refer more complicated mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop.
Complete Equipment Condition Reports and other required reports, and report necessary repairs to a supervisor.
Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
Ensure the shop is clean, serviced, and stored at the completion of each shift.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
