About The Position

GrayMar Environmental Services is expanding its national footprint and is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator II. This senior-level position is responsible for performing complex excavation, remediation, demolition, grading, and site restoration activities. The role serves as a lead equipment operator on remediation projects, mentors junior operators, and supports field supervision in achieving project productivity, safety, and compliance objectives. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of heavy equipment operating experience.
  • 2+ years of environmental remediation experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency operating multiple types of heavy equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of excavation safety and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Must pass drug screening and criminal background check.
  • Advanced equipment operating skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental remediation processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong understanding of contaminated soil management and waste profiling.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in dynamic field conditions.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Valid Driver License with a clean driving record.
  • CDL Class A or B.
  • Competent Person Certification for Excavation and Trenching.
  • NCCCO, NCCER, or equivalent equipment certifications or experience.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Experience leading crews or serving as a lead operator.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Operate specialized heavy equipment including: Large excavators, Long-reach excavators, High-reach demolition Excavators, Mini excavators, Dozers, Front end & wheel loaders, Rollers, Articulated haul trucks, Off-road haul trucks, Compactors, Backhoes, Water trucks, Material handlers, GPS-guided equipment.
  • Travel up to 80% of the time for remediation projects across the United States, including extended periods of time away from home to support ongoing & emergency project work across the GrayMar organization.
  • Work extended hours operating heavy equipment, sometimes while wearing PPE.
  • Operate advanced heavy equipment and specialized attachments to support environmental remediation, construction, emergency response, and waste management projects.
  • Independently perform bulk excavation, selective excavation, in-situ soil mixing, engineered cap construction, and other complex remediation activities.
  • Lead contaminated soil excavation, segregation, stockpiling, treatment support, material handling, and site restoration activities.
  • Interpret project plans, grade specifications, and remediation requirements to execute work with minimal supervision.
  • Perform equipment inspections, preventative maintenance checks, and maintain required equipment documentation.
  • Complete DOT-required vehicle inspections, logs, and transportation documentation, as applicable.
  • Load, transport, and stage soil, waste, materials, and equipment in accordance with project requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety procedures, environmental regulations, and PPE requirements.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to less experienced operators and field personnel.
  • Coordinate equipment activities with project managers, supervisors, field crews, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Maintain accurate daily field reports, equipment logs, and operational documentation.
  • Support emergency response, rapid deployment, and travel-based remediation projects as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
