About The Position

Akima Facilities Operations (AFO) is looking for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to work in Fort Hood, TX. This role involves analyzing malfunctions and repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining various types of heavy power equipment. The mechanic will operate and inspect machines to diagnose defects, dismantle and reassemble equipment, examine parts for damage, replace defective components, and test overhauled equipment for operating efficiency. Welding broken parts and structural members may also be required. This position requires working both indoors and outdoors, with potential for overtime and exposure to various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years heavy equipment maintenance experience.
  • Knowledgeable in U.S. Army maintenance procedures and AR 750-1.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
  • Ability to receive a favorable TIER-1 Investigation result.
  • Ability to bring and use own tools.
  • Physical requirements include (but are not limited to) the ability to lift 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, bending, squatting, and reaching.

Nice To Haves

  • ASE Certification.
  • U.S. Army 91 series MOS qualification or civilian equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Commercial Driver License with Passenger Endorsement.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, pneumatic tools, and tracked/wheeled vehicles.
  • Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency.
  • Welds broken parts and structural members.
  • May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.
  • May repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines.
