The heavy equipment mechanic diagnoses, repairs, and maintains a variety of contractor equipment used in construction activities. Equipment serviced may include – but is not limited to – dozers, excavators, loaders, rollers, rubber-tire equipment, and support vehicles. Work is performed both in the shop and in the field, and includes diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic faults, performing scheduled preventive maintenance, and repairing or replacing major components. NOTE: Must have a flexible schedule (may work irregular or odd hours in outdoor work sites, depending upon project needs or weather), including nights and weekends, and must be available to respond to urgent field service calls.
