About The Position

Tessera is seeking an experienced and hard working Heavy Equipment Mechanic with a positive attitude. This role is responsible for maintaining operational and non-operational vehicle maintenance schedules, instructing and training employees on proper procedures, performing maintenance and repairs on various types of equipment, and ensuring quality service to meet contract requirements. The position also involves administrative duties such as processing time sheets and generating reports, as well as maintaining knowledge of applicable rules and regulations. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead must also ensure buildings are secured and safety measures are taken, coach and mentor employees, monitor employee performance and conduct, and maintain professionalism. Travel for temporary assignments may be required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of automotive experience required.
  • CDL Class A required or must be obtained within first 90 days of hire.
  • Must be knowledgeable in maintenance of fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • A valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.
  • Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative, such as a U.S. passport or military ID, in accordance with the REAL ID Act.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access.
  • A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
  • A Department of Energy (DOE) pre-pre-employment drug screening is required.
  • Candidates must meet federal guidelines in order to be considered for this position.
  • A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or a valid state Driver’s License and be able to obtain a CDL A within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance company.
  • Candidate must meet federal guidelines to be considered for this position - Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment drug screening, medical examination certification, and cleared query with the FMCSA Clearinghouse is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in automotive preferred.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Operational and Non-Operational Vehicle Maintenance schedules (Vehicle Maintenance Tasks and SGT Maintenance).
  • Instruct, train, and monitor employees and new hires on proper procedures pertaining to shop safety, contract maintenance, workbook completion, and safety issues.
  • Perform maintenance of equipment, to include, but not limited to, wheeled vehicles, track vehicles, engineer equipment, power generation, and material handling equipment.
  • Responsible for completing major and minor repairs and performing services as outlined in established technical manuals.
  • Perform inspection and repair on brakes, suspension, wheels, hubs, and steering systems.
  • Understand and follow technical manuals, lube orders, wiring, and hydraulic schematics to ensure proper diagnosis and repair during annual services.
  • Perform major repair jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, removing components, installing assemblies, and installing components.
  • Process Time and Attendance sheets and task sheets by totaling and balancing the hours to produce the daily tally and weekly production report.
  • Assist Manager with ensuring all areas are clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly.
  • Assist Manager with ensuring quality service to meet the contract requirements.
  • Assist Manager with ensuring that QC inspections are corrected on time and followed up on.
  • Responsible for various reports- i.e., schedules, training, attendance, evaluations, various employee documentations, correct time keeping, accident reports.
  • Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, DOE, Corporate, and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements, and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the issue, turn-in & securing of all government and Tessera keys/vehicles/phones.
  • Ensure that buildings are secured and safety measures taken when exiting.
  • Coach, mentor, and resolve employee concerns in a respectful and mutually beneficial manner while adhering to a high confidentiality standard in all situations.
  • Monitor employees to ensure efficient use of time, performance, and understanding of work tasks.
  • Monitor employee interactions and conduct, documenting misconduct on designated Tessera forms.
  • Maintain professionalism in both appearance and demeanor.
  • Must be able to travel for temporary assignments for up to 6 weeks, working 10 – 12 hour days, variable shifts, and endure exposure to the elements/seasons.
