About The Position

Akima Facilities Operations (AFO) is looking for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Lead/Technical Inspector to work in Fort Hood, TX. This role involves analyzing malfunctions and repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining various heavy equipment. The position also includes administrative duties for the Lead designation, such as personnel accountability, timekeeping, reporting, and fostering a safety culture. The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings with potential for overtime and exposure to various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience.
  • Must be knowledgeable in U.S. Army maintenance procedures and AR 750-1.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
  • Must be able to receive a favorable TIER-1 Investigation result and obtain and maintain a CAC.
  • Must have the ability to bring and use own tools.
  • Must have the physical requirements to include (but not limited to) to lift 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, bending, squatting, and reaching.

Nice To Haves

  • ASE Certification desired.
  • Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement preferred.
  • U.S. Army 91 series MOS qualification or civilian equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License preferred.
  • High School Diploma / GED preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, pneumatic tools, and tracked/wheeled vehicles.
  • Operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Welds broken parts and structural members.
  • May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.
  • May repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines.
  • Administrative duties include personnel accountability, timekeeping, drafting and submitting reports, creating a safety culture, and enforcing company/contract requirements and standards.
