About The Position

The Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic II performs maintenance and repairs on vehicles and heavy equipment, diagnoses mechanical issues, replaces components, maintains service records, and ensures a safe, clean work environment. This role involves performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on a fleet of vehicles including buses, heavy-duty trucks and automobiles, as well as heavy equipment such as excavators, wheel loaders, skid steers and backhoes. The mechanic ensures that vehicles are safe, reliable and operating efficiently, inspects vehicles thoroughly and repairs or replaces broken or worn components. Responsibilities also include diagnosing and repairing heating and air, electrical and engine cooling systems, maintaining repair and service records, and scheduling vehicles for preventative maintenance.

Requirements

  • A Degree from college or trade school or five years of related mechanical experience on buses, heavy trucks and heavy equipment is required. A combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Must have knowledge of diesel engines, gas engines, brakes, struts and front ends, electrical repair.
  • Must possess a valid NYS Driver’s license.
  • Must be able to stand walk and sit for longer periods of time and lift up to 100 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Must be ASE certified in brakes, steering and suspension preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on a fleet of vehicles including buses, heavy-duty trucks and automobiles.
  • Performs mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment including excavators, wheel loaders, skid steers and backhoes.
  • Ensures that vehicles are safe, reliable and operating efficiently
  • Inspects vehicles thoroughly and repairs or replaces broken or worn components.
  • Diagnoses and repairs heating and air, electrical and engine cooling systems.
  • Maintains repair and service records and schedules vehicles for preventative maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
