About The Position

This role involves performing general overhauls of plant equipment such as crushers, screens, feeders, and batching plants. The mechanic will be responsible for rebuilding equipment components, troubleshooting malfunctions, and making necessary repairs, adjustments, and maintenance. The position may also require performing duties of other mechanics or welders, using various hand and power tools, driving and testing equipment, and performing periodic preventative maintenance checks. Additionally, the role includes servicing equipment, preparing reports and requisitions, assisting other tradesmen, and potentially overseeing the work of trades helpers and other mechanics. The job also requires performing night shift work and adhering to safety procedures at all times.

Requirements

  • Minimum Requirements Light welding experience
  • GED and/or equivalent combination of experience
  • Must become a member of the ILWU local 142
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Working knowledge in repair, parts and operation of above equipment.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and problem solve.
  • Independently working to assess and repair equipment appropriately.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanic certification from an accredited program. (ASE diesel mechanic or equivalent)
  • CDL Class B license, valid DOT medical card and acceptable driving record
  • 4+ years experience working on heavy equipment

Responsibilities

  • Perform general overhauls of plant equipment such as crushers, screens, feeders and batching plants.
  • Rebuild equipment components and troubleshoot malfunctions.
  • Diagnose malfunctions and based on findings repair, adjust, and maintain equipment.
  • May perform the duties of other mechanics or welder.
  • Use hand and power tools common to their trade such as wrenches, hammers, hoists, drills, grinders, feeler gauges, indicators, component testing equipment, etc.
  • Drive pickup and test equipment as necessary.
  • Perform established periodic P.M. checks as required.
  • Service (clean, oil, and lube) equipment, plant compressor, pumps and meters.
  • Follow established procedures in preparing necessary reports, requisitions, etc.
  • Assist other tradesmen with repairs.
  • Oversee the work of trades helpers, other mechanics or welders, and other tradesmen where their assistance is needed.
  • Perform night shift work and other related duties as required.
  • Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
