About The Position

SMS Equipment is seeking dedicated Heavy Equipment Technicians who take pride in their work, thrive in a dynamic environment, and are committed to their craft. This role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy mining and construction equipment. While local candidates from Wabush, NL are an asset, all qualified candidates are welcome. Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) and accommodation are available. This position is classified as an Individual Contributor role, requiring demonstration of core competencies such as customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise. Requirements

  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification (Red Seal is an asset).
  • Minimum 1 year of field experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and address complex mechanical issues.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, taking ownership of repairs and maintenance.
  • Commitment to safety and high-quality work, ensuring equipment operates efficiently and meets standards.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with customers and team members in various environments.
  • Physically capable of performing demanding tasks and working in confined spaces.
  • Must complete pre-employment requirements: Drug and alcohol check, Medical questionnaire, 5 Year Commercial Driver’s abstract.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy mining and construction equipment, including haul trucks, dozers, excavators, shovels, loaders, and graders.
  • Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and major component replacements in both shop and field settings.
  • Service and repair hydraulic and powertrain systems across a range of heavy equipment applications.
  • Work independently in remote field settings or collaborate in a fast-paced shop environment.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring equipment operates safely and efficiently.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including working in confined spaces and using proper PPE.
