The Heat Treater Specialist is responsible for heat treating a variety of steel or parts and tools, requiring ingenuity to prevent warping. This role involves calibrating instruments, correctly packing carburized parts, and selecting the appropriate timing for case depth. The specialist will pay close attention to electric furnaces to ensure correct heating and treatment timing, and select the proper quenching medium as determined by the Metallurgical Lab or Supervision. The position also includes operating hardness testing equipment, potentially operating a cyanide pot, and may involve specialization in either steel or heat treat. Additionally, the role requires setting up and operating a Gleason Quenching Press, Lepel or other high frequency welding or induction heating machines, and starting and operating a Neutralene Generator with a nitrogen/methanol system, ensuring proper operating condition.
