About The Position

The Heat Treater Specialist is responsible for heat treating a variety of steel or parts and tools, requiring ingenuity to prevent warping and ensure correct calibration and packing. This role involves selecting appropriate case depths and timing for electric furnaces, choosing the correct quenching medium (as determined by the Metallurgical Lab or Supervision), and operating hardness testing equipment. The specialist may also operate a cyanide pot and could be specialized in either steel or heat treat. Additionally, the role includes setting up and operating equipment such as Gleason Quenching Presses, Lepel or other high frequency welding or induction heating machines, and operating a Neutralene Generator with a nitrogen/methanol system, ensuring proper operating conditions.

Requirements

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of heat treater or related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Heat treat a variety of steel or parts and tools where considerable ingenuity is required to prevent warping, calibrate instruments, pack carburized parts correctly.
  • Select timing for depth of case.
  • Give special attention to electric furnaces to ensure correct heating and treatment timing.
  • Select proper quenching medium (determined by the Metallurgical Lab or Supervision).
  • Operate hardness testing equipment.
  • Occasionally operate cyanide pot.
  • May be specialized in either steel or heat treat.
  • Set-up and operate a Gleason Quenching Press, Lepel or other high frequency welding or induction heating machines.
  • Start and operate Neutralene Generator, utilize a nitrogen / methanol system) and check for proper operating condition.
