About The Position

The Heat Treat Apprentice will learn how to prepare a load, how to load into and unload from Heat Treat furnaces, and how to monitor and document the entire process to ensure our products meet or exceed industry and customer requirements. This role involves learning various aspects of heat treating, quality control, and lean manufacturing principles.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of High School or equivalent.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
  • In compliance with ITAR regulations, must be a US Citizen or US Person (U.S. Person = a natural person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)).
  • Basic Math (addition, subtraction, decimal points, tolerance).
  • Basic English (reading, writing, verbal and comprehend).
  • Must be able to work overtime when required to meet operational deadlines.
  • Strong commitment to good attendance and being on time as it is critical to meet production needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • On-the-job training will be provided for this position.
  • Ability to operate forklift strongly preferred.
  • Microsoft Office skills a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Wear proper Personal Protection Equipment at the work area all the time.
  • Work safe and maintain an organized, lean work environment.
  • Assure quality and production requirements are met, as per the job-specific travelers.
  • Participate in total quality management projects to achieve continuous improvement.
  • Participate in LEAN manufacturing and SPC activities as required.
  • Ensure adherence to APP’s policies and procedures, including our code of conduct and ethics policy, product safety, employee safety and cultural beliefs.
  • Ensure adherence to all process specifications.
  • Support the Plant quality system goals / improvements & productivity goals / improvements within the scope of the job.
  • Learn to acquire skills and knowledge to visually inspect forgings and racks for cleanliness and satisfactory condition.
  • Learn to acquire the expertise to rack forgings in accordance with racking plans and industry best practices.
  • Learn the best practice in preparation for furnace loading.
  • Acquire the skill to set and monitor furnace temperatures.
  • Acquire the skill to prepare furnace unloading.
  • Acquire the skill and knowledge to perform hardness and conductivity inspection under direct supervision.
  • Acquire the knowledge to document the entire heat treat processes.
  • Learn to fill out various Checklists as directed.
  • Perform any other duties not mentioned above when instructed to do so by the department manager.
