About The Position

The Hearing Officer at the State Farm Correctional Center is responsible for presiding over all inmate disciplinary hearings, processing related forms, and monitoring the penalty offer process. This role oversees and administers procedures for disciplinary hearings and actions, aiming to promote positive inmate behavior by applying consequences to negative actions. The position also serves to provide staff with proper inmate management strategies and ensures compliance with Department policy and Division and Institutional operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) policies and procedures.
  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to obtain and evaluate information and/or evidence to conduct a fair and impartial hearing.
  • Demonstrated ability to make a sound and impartial finding of guilt or innocence and to explain charges, rules, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize data and conduct hearings in a fair and impartial manner and to document results of the disciplinary hearings.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and apply policies and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to train staff and inmates in the application of disciplinary process.

  • Demonstrated ability to speak Spanish.
  • Considerable knowledge of Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) Inmate Discipline Procedure.
