About The Position

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, a leading human services provider founded in 1894, offers a wide range of integrated services including social, educational, health, housing, mental health, nutritional, and fitness programs to approximately 16,000 individuals annually on Manhattan's East Side. The organization has transitioned its food services to a farm-to-table model to enhance client health and well-being through access to fresh, locally sourced, and sustainable foods. They serve 250,000 meals yearly across various programs and have launched a Community Meals to Go program. The Teaching Kitchen® initiative trains other nonprofits in adopting farm-to-institution food service models without increasing costs, aiming to improve the health of individuals reliant on government-funded meals, strengthen regional economies, and promote environmental sustainability. The organization also possesses expertise in needs assessment, resource provision, and direct enrollment into programs like SNAP. This role focuses on managing and coordinating all aspects of the community healthy food initiatives across the Neighborhood House. The Healthy Food Initiatives Coordinator will report to the Executive Chef and Director of Culinary Programs and collaborate with the Senior Program Director, overseeing administrative, operational, organizational, and client-facing support for this new initiative.

Requirements

  • Education and experience in food services, culinary programs, social services, community education, or a related field

  • Fluency in Spanish or Chinese is highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day logistics of the Community Meals to Go and Fresh Farm Bag Programs, including scheduling, registration, distribution coordination, volunteer management, and ensuring food safety and compliance standards are met
  • Provide person-centered food access services to community members across all Neighborhood House programs and for the broader community
  • Coordinate and make referrals to food access benefits and food security services
  • Assist community members in accessing and enrolling in SNAP and other nutrition assistance programs
  • Track program data and outcomes, contribute to grant reporting and impact documentation, maintain records for food inventory and client services, and support budget monitoring for healthy food programs
  • Work closely with the Executive Chef and Director of Culinary Programs, Senior Program Director, and staff across the organization, and will support the Teaching Kitchen® program and Food Services program
  • Complete all other responsibilities and duties as assigned by Supervisor
