About The Position

Camp Towhee is seeking a Healthcare Supervisor to oversee the health and wellness needs of campers and staff. This role involves managing the Health Centre, supervising a Healthcare Assistant, and acting as a primary first responder in medical emergencies. The position is ideal for individuals pursuing a career in healthcare with a passion for supporting children and youth, particularly those with mental health issues complicated by learning disabilities. The role offers valuable experience in a camp setting, focusing on behavior management, counseling skills, and mental health support.

Requirements

  • Minimum completion of two (2) years of a healthcare related post-secondary degree (nursing, paramedic, etc.), with three (3) or more years strongly preferred.
  • Practical experience in providing healthcare/first aid in roles such as lifeguarding, ski patrol, first responder, hospital placement, etc
  • Previous professional experience working within a camp environment is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with children and/or youth.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR C or greater.
  • Must have/acquire a current and valid police record check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful and aware manner with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

  • All CDI employees are required to be fully vaccinated against measles as a condition of hire in accordance with CDI Mandatory Vaccination Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Providing ongoing medical and emotional care to campers, and staff when necessary, and acting as a primary first responder in more serious medical emergencies.
  • Discerning physical and psychosomatic distress and implementing the best intervention to match.
  • Providing mental and physical health education to campers and staff when necessary for their continued health and wellness.
  • Administering camper medications as required.
  • Organizing and running the Health Centre with the help of the Healthcare Assistant as per OCA and Camp Towhee policies and procedures.
  • Supervising the Healthcare Assistant, including supporting their professional development and providing written performance appraisals.
  • Perform as a part of the greater Towhee Supervisor Team, which includes the development of staff training, team building activities, providing general support to all staff members, assisting with decision making, risk management, and providing insight on a camper's physical, emotional, mental, and social state where applicable.
  • Assisting in other areas of the camp by providing direct support and supervision of campers during mealtimes, evening programs, bedtime routines and night supervision as able.
  • Working as part of the overall staff team by participating in the planning and implementation of special, camp-wide theme programs and activities.
  • Adhering to and interpreting for other staff and campers about the policies, practices, and procedures of Camp Towhee.
