About The Position

Camp Towhee/Towhee Summer Therapeutic Program treats youth with Mental Health issues complicated by Learning Disabilities. Located in Haliburton, Ontario, Towhee positively changes the trajectory of kids and staffs lives. This will be one of the most rewarding, magical and hardest places you will ever work. We provide 12 days of training covering behaviour management, counselling skills, CPI, mental health and learning disabilities. Requirements

  • One (1) or more years of a healthcare related post-secondary degree or equivalent professional experience (nursing, paramedic, etc.).
  • Practical experience in providing healthcare/first aid in roles such as lifeguarding, ski patrol, first responder, hospital placement, etc.
  • Experience working with children and/or youth.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR C or greater.
  • Must have/acquire a current and valid police record check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful and aware manner with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Providing medical and emotional care to campers, and staff when necessary, and acting as a primary first responder in more serious medical emergencies.
  • Discerning between physical and psychosomatic distress and implementing the best intervention to match.
  • Providing mental and physical health education to campers and staff when necessary for their continued health and wellness.
  • Organizing and running the Health Centre with the help of the Health Team Supervisor as per OCA and Towhee policies and procedures.
  • Administering camper medications as required.
  • Assisting in other areas of the camp by providing direct support and supervision of campers during mealtimes, evening programs, bedtime routines and night supervision as able.
  • Working as part of the overall staff team by participating in the planning and implementation of special, camp-wide theme programs and activities.
  • Adhering to and interpreting for other staff and campers about the policies, practices, and procedures of Camp Towhee.
