About The Position

We are looking for a Project Engineer to support large-scale commercial electrical construction projects within a self-perform electrical contractor environment, with exposure to healthcare, institutional, and complex commercial builds onsite in the Detroit, Michigan area. This role works closely with Project Managers and field leadership to help drive project execution, maintain documentation flow, support scheduling activities, and assist with coordination between the office and field teams. The position is designed for someone who wants hands-on involvement in commercial electrical construction while developing into a long-term project leadership role. This is not a purely administrative position — the role carries direct involvement in active project operations and execution.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in commercial construction, electrical construction, or project engineering environments
  • Understanding of commercial construction processes, project documentation flow, and field coordination
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules
  • Must be comfortable supporting active field operations and interacting with superintendents, foremen, and project teams
  • Commercial construction experience is required; residential-only experience will not be considered

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working for an electrical contractor, general contractor, or specialty subcontractor preferred
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, Procore, Autodesk, Microsoft Project, or similar construction software preferred
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to operate in a fast-paced project environment

Responsibilities

  • Support commercial electrical projects from preconstruction through closeout alongside Project Managers and field leadership
  • Assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement tracking, and project documentation management
  • Coordinate with field teams, vendors, subcontractors, and clients to maintain project flow and communication
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and electrical documentation for accuracy and coordination
  • Track project progress, material deliveries, manpower updates, and schedule milestones across active projects
  • Participate in project meetings, site visits, and coordination efforts with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain organized project records, logs, and reporting throughout the construction lifecycle
  • Assist with cost tracking, billing support, forecasting updates, and project status reporting
  • Help identify and resolve field coordination issues, scheduling conflicts, and documentation gaps
  • Support multiple commercial electrical projects simultaneously in a fast-paced construction environment
