About The Position

The Healthcare Financial Analyst reports to the Chief Financial Officer and supports hospital financial operations through analysis of programs, processes, and finance-related systems. This role partners with budgeting, accounting, and revenue cycle teams to develop routine and ad hoc financial reporting, create data dashboards and visualizations, and identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities. The analyst helps translate business questions into clear analyses, supports standardization of finance workflows, and assists with documentation and audit readiness. As directed, this position collaborates with Information Technology to identify and implement finance-related process improvement initiatives and develop financial data visualization tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • 1 year of relevant professional experience in finance, analytics, consulting, or healthcare operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (especially Excel and PowerPoint) and experience creating reports, dashboards, or data visualizations.
  • Excellent customer relations skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in business administration (MBA), healthcare administration, finance, accounting, public administration, or related field.
  • Exposure to data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and/or basic financial modeling techniques.
  • Interest or experience in hospital finance (budgeting, cost accounting, reimbursement, or revenue cycle) through coursework, projects, or prior work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze hospital financial performance using established reports and data sources; identify trends, drivers, and variances impacting operating results.
  • Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting cycles by compiling templates, validating assumptions, tracking submissions, and summarizing results for leadership review.
  • Assist accounting with month-end close activities including reconciliation support, review of key accounts, and preparation of recurring schedules and summaries.
  • Prepare and maintain routine and ad hoc reporting, including dashboards and data visualizations, to support operations, service lines, and executive finance reporting.
  • Support revenue cycle performance monitoring (e.g., charges, denials, collections, payer mix, A/R days) by analyzing metrics, highlighting exceptions, and assisting with root-cause review.
  • Evaluate finance programs and processes for efficiency and control effectiveness; document current-state workflows and recommend improvements aligned with policy and best practice.
  • Partner with Finance leaders to define key performance indicators (KPIs), establish reporting cadence, and ensure consistent definitions and methodology across departments.
  • Assist with compliance, audit, and cost-report support by assembling analyses, maintaining documentation, and responding to data requests in a timely, accurate manner.
  • Develop business cases and basic financial models for initiatives (e.g., service changes, staffing models, capital requests) including assumptions, sensitivity analyses, and summary narratives.
  • Support Finance-related system/process changes by coordinating user testing, validating outputs, and updating documentation and training aids; coordinate with IT as needed for access and issue resolution.
  • Create clear written summaries and presentations that translate financial results into actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and communicate progress, risks, and data limitations to Finance leadership.
  • Maintain data governance practices within Finance (definitions, reconciliations, and version control) to promote accuracy and consistent reporting.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to understand workflows and volume drivers, and incorporate operational context into financial analyses and recommendations.
  • Participate in meetings and workgroups supporting finance initiatives; take notes, track action items, and follow up to support completion of deliverables.
  • Remain current on healthcare finance concepts (e.g., reimbursement, payment models, regulatory impacts) and apply learnings to analyses and process improvement work.
