About The Position

The Healthcare Data Analyst provides analytical and reporting support to internal and external stakeholders by transforming healthcare data into actionable insights that drive business and operational performance. This role is responsible for developing reports, dashboards, and self-service analytics solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization. As a subject matter expert, the Healthcare Data Analyst partners with business leaders, operational teams, clinicians, and provider partners to identify opportunities, evaluate outcomes, and deliver meaningful recommendations through data analysis. Responsibilities include designing and supporting programmatic reporting solutions, performing ad hoc analyses, defining business requirements for new analytical capabilities, and supporting data quality and stewardship initiatives to ensure data integrity and accuracy. As an integrated health system, Sentara delivers analytics across a broad range of healthcare domains including health plan operations, population health, ambulatory care, acute and post-acute care, quality improvement, regulatory reporting, and operational performance. The Healthcare Data Analyst will leverage advanced analytics tools and methodologies to support initiatives focused on improving patient outcomes, enhancing operational efficiency, and supporting strategic business objectives. Areas of analytical focus may include: Medical expense and utilization trends, Population health and risk stratification, HEDIS, STAR ratings, and quality reporting, Clinical gaps in care and adherence metrics, Value-based care and provider performance measurement, State and federal regulatory reporting, Employer group and client reporting, Network management and contracting analytics, Quality and performance benchmarking, Research data and analytic support, Operational and financial performance reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Analytics, Healthcare Administration, Informatics, Statistics, Computer Science, Public Health, Business Analytics, or a related field (Required)
  • Experience analyzing healthcare, clinical, financial, operational, or population health data.
  • Experience developing reports, dashboards, and self-service analytics solutions for business stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of SQL, Tableau, Power BI, Databricks, and AI/ML technologies to support data analysis, visualization, and reporting initiatives.
  • Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into analytical solutions and reporting deliverables.
  • Experience performing data validation, data quality assessments, and troubleshooting reporting discrepancies.
  • Strong consultative skills with the ability to communicate complex analytical findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of SQL, Tableau, Power BI, Databricks, and AI/ML
