About The Position

Westbank First Nation (WFN) is seeking a Health & Wellness Summer Student to gain hands-on experience through a structured shadowing opportunity with executive leadership and the Home Care Administration team. The student will observe and support administrative, coordination, and planning functions within the Wellness Department, while also contributing to community health and wellness initiatives. This role provides exposure to leadership decision-making, program coordination, and service delivery in a culturally grounded environment. The student will assist with and participate in health and wellness events, learning how services are developed, organized, and delivered to community members. The Summer Student will have opportunities to engage with various WFN departments, including Health & Wellness, Home Care, and community programming teams, while building professional skills in communication, organization, and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Must be a registered student returning to studies in Fall 2026 (Grade 10 to post-secondary)
  • Interest in Health Administration, Social Work, Community Development, Business Administration, or Indigenous Studies
  • Criminal Record Check with results acceptable to WFN
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation

  • Demonstrates a high degree of confidentiality in interpersonal interaction
  • Working knowledge of the history of colonization in Canada and its ongoing impact on modern issues affecting Indigenous Peoples
  • Working knowledge in communicating with Indigenous Peoples, demonstrating sensitivity and empathy, and awareness of how language choices can influence and impact conversations.

Responsibilities

  • Shadows executive staff and Home Care Administration to gain insight into leadership, planning, and service delivery
  • Assists with administrative and coordination tasks within the Wellness Department
  • Supports the planning and delivery of community health and wellness events
  • Helps prepare materials for meetings, presentations, and reports
  • Performs general office duties (filing, photocopying, organizing documents)
  • Conducts basic research and compile information related to health and community services
  • Assists with coordination of programs such as the Food Bank and other community supports
  • Participates in team meetings, training, and learning opportunities
  • May attend meetings or events (including off-site) to gain practical knowledge
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards, and procedures, and as assigned by the Health Manager
