About The Position

To teach students practical applications and theory of Health Sciences relating to the regulations set forth by the Michigan Department of Education, Office of Career and Technical Education. This role involves teaching various health science courses, fostering industry partnerships, adhering to state standards, and preparing students for competitions. The teacher will create a conducive learning environment, assess student progress, collaborate with staff and parents, and manage student behavior effectively. Responsibilities also include preparing instructional materials, maintaining accurate records, and accommodating students with learning disabilities. The position requires participation in professional development and responding to inquiries and emergencies. Additionally, the teacher may direct student teachers and support other staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and valid Standard or Professional Michigan Occupation Certification in Health Sciences/Therapeutic Services (CIP 51.0000) with appropriate industry licensure (RN)
  • OR, if no Bachelor’s degree or Occupational Certificate, the ability to qualify for Annual Career Authorization which requires a minimum of 4,000 hours (within the last 10 years) of recent and relevant work experience in the Health Sciences Field with appropriate industry licensure (RN).
  • CPR/First Aid/AED

Responsibilities

  • Teach Nursing Assistant (NHA - PCT), Medical Assisting (NHA-CCMA), Anatomy & Physiology for Health Careers and Medical Terminology or some combination of the listed classes.
  • Contribute to fostering a strong program industry advisory committee and conducts a minimum of two meetings per year.
  • Teach the state approved standards for CIP Code 51.0000.
  • Update the CIP Self-review and fulfill all State of Michigan CTE requirements annually.
  • Participate in student HOSA competitions.
  • Teach district approved curriculum.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Administer and Develop subject specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
  • Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; student’s achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Counsel students for the purpose of improving performance, problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
  • Demonstrate and Differentiate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements and results in student growth.
  • Instruct students for the purpose of improving their success in academics through a defined course of study.
  • Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Participate in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required resulting in optimum performance.
  • Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, lesson plans following scope and sequence correspondence with parents and students, examinations and quizzes, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Use various tools to assess the growth and achievement of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate hard copy and web-based records and prepare progress/grade reports.
  • Accommodate the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Participate in co-teaching situations with a special education teacher assigned.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, zero tolerance offenses etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to state law and board policies.
  • Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Maintain reliable and consistent attendance and demonstrate the ability to withstand the physical and mental rigors of teaching.
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, students, central office staff, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
  • Responsible to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by administration.
  • Direct student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school.
  • Support other classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.
