About The Position

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in Health Science and Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses that prepare them for postsecondary education, industry certifications, and careers in the healthcare field. Enable students to develop the academic, technical, and professional skills necessary to function successfully in healthcare and related professions. Develop, grow, and sustain a comprehensive Health Science program through strategic partnerships with healthcare providers, postsecondary institutions, and community organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, or high school diploma/GED and equivalent wage-earning experience as required by certification.
  • Valid Texas career and technical education certificate with required license, endorsements, and training for subject and level assigned, or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI).
  • Demonstrated competency in the Health Science subject area assigned.
  • Knowledge of Health Science curriculum, healthcare careers, and industry standards.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Ability to oversee student clinical experiences, internships, and work-based learning opportunities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain partnerships with healthcare organizations, businesses, and postsecondary institutions.
  • Knowledge of industry certifications and workforce readiness requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or two years of wage-earning experience in the area of certification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of student learning styles and needs and present subject matter according to TEA guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
  • Develop and implement hands-on learning experiences, laboratory activities, simulations, and work-based learning opportunities that reflect current healthcare industry standards.
  • Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications and postsecondary opportunities in healthcare fields.
  • Coordinate and supervise clinical experiences, internships, job shadowing opportunities, and other work-based learning activities in accordance with district and state requirements.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Promote student participation and leadership in HOSA and other approved Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs).
  • Guide students in exploring healthcare career pathways and postsecondary education opportunities.
  • Present a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with local healthcare providers, colleges, universities, pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, and community organizations to support student learning and workforce development.
  • Coordinate advisory committee meetings, guest speakers, field experiences, and other partnership activities that enhance the Health Science program.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of healthcare industry trends, certification requirements, and workforce needs to ensure program relevance and effectiveness.
  • Lead efforts to develop, promote, and expand the Health Science program to meet student, district, and community workforce needs.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations related to Health Science education, clinical placements, and occupational areas assigned.
  • Follow district safety protocols, laboratory safety standards, and emergency procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s).
