About The Position

Hixson High School, a 9-12 school located in Hixson, TN, is committed to providing an individualized, safe learning environment for all students to grow intellectually, emotionally, and socially. The school offers post-secondary pathways through three Future Ready Institutes, including the CHI Memorial Institute of Healthcare and Medical Careers. Hixson High also highlights the arts and offers advanced learning opportunities such as AP, Dual Enrollment, and State Dual Credit courses. Students can participate in a wide array of sports, clubs, and organizations. We are looking for teachers committed to children, able to connect with a diverse student body, and respectful of all cultures and ethnic backgrounds. Candidates should be competent in their subject matter, willing to be pedagogically coached, and committed to being a team player. This Future Ready teacher will teach CTE courses in the health science pathways to 9-12 grade students, collaborating with other core academic teachers to plan project-based learning opportunities with real-world connections.

Requirements

• Hold an Occupational Teaching license with endorsement (720) Health Science.
• Possess an Associate’s degree or above leading to a Tennessee Board of Health issued licensure in one of the following areas or occupations (Internships and Fellowships are not eligible): Registered nurse, physician, chiropractor, dentist, dental hygienist, medical laboratory technician, paramedic, athletic trainer, occupational therapist, physical therapist, respiratory therapist, radiology technician, diagnostic medical sonographer, nuclear medicine technologist, audiologist, veterinarian, physical therapy assistant, occupational therapy assistant, physician’s assistant, speech therapist, optometrist, pharmacist, dietician, podiatrist, clinical perfusionist.
• Have one year of full-time or part-time work experience out of the past five years in a relevant occupation.
• Hold a Tennessee Board of Health issued license.
• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, Board members, parents, and community members.

Responsibilities

• Teach CTE courses in the health science pathways to 9-12 grade students.
• Work with other core academic teachers to plan project-based learning opportunities and instruction with real-world connections to the career theme.
• Serve as the liaison for this program with Erlanger Hospital.
• Effectively collaborate and plan academy activities with partners inside and outside the school.
• Build relationships with students, with a particular interest in working in a diverse setting with students in urban school settings.

• This position may be eligible for an increase in total compensation through the Differentiated Compensation Plan for designated schools and hard-to-staff positions.
