About The Position

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving HSE programs within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations while proactively identifying hazards associated with production processes, machinery, and material handling. The HSE Specialist partners closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to minimize risk, reduce incidents, and promote a strong safety and environmental culture across the facility.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3–7 years of HSE experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment.
  • OSHA General Industry Standards

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Safety Management Specialist (SMS)

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific HSE programs tailored to manufacturing / Ship building operations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct routine safety and environmental audits, inspections, and job hazard analyses (JHAs) across production floors, fabrication areas, and equipment stations.
  • Lead incident and environmental event investigations (including near-misses, recordables, spills, and releases) and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop and deliver HSE training programs, including PPE usage, hazard communication, equipment safety, waste handling, and emergency response.
  • Oversee hazardous material handling, storage, and disposal practices in accordance with environmental regulations.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness programs, including evacuation plans, spill response, and drills.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory inspections and audits.
