About The Position

The Métis Internship Program (MIP) invests in committed, talented MNO citizens who are recent graduates seeking a great opportunity to start and accelerate their careers through a 12-month full-time assignment. This means creating best-in-class career and development opportunities through an internship program for individuals who have graduated within 12-months of the job posting or is expected to graduate with a recognized degree, postgraduate certificate or diploma. The aim is to enhance the candidate’s understanding of their chosen field of work through mentorship and experience, and ultimately enhance the candidate’s resume and knowledge. Through experience, relationships, and training, interns are supported by a wide network of peers, managers and mentors to guide and enrich professional growth. Interns receive ongoing feedback, mentoring and coaching to grow and succeed.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be a Métis Nation of Ontario citizen and must complete program intake and eligibility assessment prior to final hire.
  • College Diploma (1 or 2 year)
  • Less than 1 year of experience
  • Health & Safety experience
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment.
  • Basic understanding of applicable AODA legislation
  • Basic understanding of Ontario Health & Safety Act
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Highly detail-oriented.
  • Excellent coordination, time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of self awareness.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the MNO’s Human Resources services focusing on Health and Safety (H&S), and any other special projects as required.
  • Research legislative requirements and best practices related to Ontario Health and Safety (OHS) policies and procedures
  • Assist the H&S Advocate in updating H&S Training for staff, monthly safety audits, and H&S policies and procedures
  • Maintain the digital H&S policy hub and advance the WSIB Excellence program
  • Assist with reporting and investigating workplace incidents and accidents while ensuring timely and accurate documentation
  • Assist with H&S Rep recruitment efforts including but not limited to, participating in education days, information sessions, and town halls
  • Assist with expanding and promoting a H&S reporting system
  • Triage H&S inquiries and responding to or directing them appropriately where required
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned
  • Promotes the values of the organization within the workplace and in the community by demonstrating positive and professional relationships with others (employees, citizens, council, volunteers, advocates, etc.)
  • Reports all unsafe conditions, hazards or practices, accidents and incidents in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and adheres to all Health and Safety requirements within the MNO’s policies and procedures and provincial legislation.
  • Performs other job/branch-related duties as required.
