About The Position

This position is the managerial level of work planning, developing, implementing, maintaining and evaluating a health records program for a State facility or local health department. This position will directly supervise Health Records Technician Supervisors and indirectly supervise all staff assigned to the program. This position receives managerial supervision from a designated higher-level health administrator. Positions in this classification are evaluated by using the classification job evaluation methodology. The use of this method involves comparing the assigned duties and responsibilities of a position to the job criteria found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work sections of the class specification. This position is differentiated from a Health Records Program Supervisor in that this position is responsible for planning, developing and administering a health records program for a State facility or local health department and has supervisory responsibility for Health Records Technician Supervisors while the Health Records Program Supervisor is responsible for planning, developing and administering a health records program for a State facility or local health department and has supervisory responsibility for lower-level Health Records Technicians.

Requirements

  • An Associate of Arts degree in Medical Records Sciences from an accredited college or university.
  • Five years of experience compiling and maintaining health records, to include one year of supervisory responsibility.
  • Current registration as a Registered Health Information Administrator or as a Registered Health Information Technician by the American Health Information Management Association.
  • Two years of experience supervising employees engaged in health records processing and maintenance in a health records program for a health care facility or program.
  • U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in Medical Record classifications or Patient Administration Specialists and Health Services Management specialty codes in the health records management field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare laws and standards, including HIPAA, CMS guidelines, and The Joint Commission (TJC).
  • Experience in leadership strategic problem-solving, budgeting, and cross-departmental communication skills to manage a large, matrixed healthcare team.
